England retains the Ashes by winning a series in Australia after 25
years. They won the series 3-1.

** Baichung Bhutia, the star Indian footballer who played briefly for
Bury FC in the Third Division English Championship, announces his
retirement from international game. His farewell game was played
against Bayern Munich in Ambedkar Stadium. Indian went on to lose this
4-0.
** Lionel Messi named the UEFA Best Player award, in its inaugural
year, for his performance in the 2010-11 season.
** Lionel Messi visits Kolkata to play a friendly against Venezuela.

** Kenya's Patrick Macau creates a new world record of 2:03:59 en
route to winning the gold in the Berlin Marathon.
** Mumbai Indians wins their first CLT20 title by defeating Royal
Challengers Bangalore in the finals in the 3 rd edition of the
tournament.
** British Indycar driver Dan Wheldon dies in a freak car crash at the

** The Indo-Pak pair of Bopanna and Qureshi win their first masters

** R Ashwin becomes the 3rd Indian to achieve the unique double of a

were Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad.
** Roger Federer defeats Jo Wilfred Tsonga in his 100 th career finals
to win the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
** Hossein Vafaei Ayouri becomes of Iran won the IBSF World snooker
championships held at Bangalore
** Brazilian legend Socrates passes away in Sao Paulo. He was aged 67.
** Virender Sehwag scores a record breaking 219 in the 4th ODI against
West Indies in Indore. Incidentally, the previous highest score of
200* by Sachin Tendulkar also came in the state of MP.
** India defeats Afghanistan in Delhi and successfully defends their SAFF title.
