Cricket Update IND vs WI: Watch A record , R Ashwin becomes first Indian bowler to dismiss father-son duo in Test cricket

In a remarkable feat, Ravichandran Ashwin etched his name in history by dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the first innings of the opening Test.

This achievement marked Ashwin as the first Indian bowler to dismiss both the father and son duo in the longest format of the game.

Prior to this, Ashwin had also claimed the wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the father of Tagenarine and the current opening batter for the West Indies. Ashwin's strategic approach was evident as he skillfully set up the left-handed batsman. Tagenarine, unfortunately, failed to anticipate the line and length of a delivery that swung in, resulting in his dismissal by being bowled.

Watch:

Meanwhile, Ashwin has surpassed the renowned spin bowler Anil Kumble to become the Indian cricketer with the highest number of bowled dismissals in Test cricket. Ashwin achieved his 95th scalp, surpassing Kumble's record of 94, and is now closely followed by Kapil Dev with 88 dismissals and Mohammed Shami with 66.

Earlier, Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bat first against the visiting team. As the match commenced, the promising talents of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan were bestowed with their debut caps, marking a significant milestone in their cricketing careers.

Cricket update:

Two-time champions West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India after suffering a shock seven-wicket defeat against Scotland in a Super Six match of the qualifier in Harare on 1st July 2023, Saturday. West Indies needed a win against the Scots to keep their slim qualification hopes alive but were bowled out for 181. Riding on Matthew Cross and Brandon McMullen knocks, Scotland chased down the target with 6.3 overs to spare.

The champions of the 1975 and 1979 editions, this is the first time in the 48 years of tournament history that West Indies won't feature among the top 10 teams in limited-overs cricket. It was also Scotland's first-ever win over the Caribbean side in the ODIs.

With two more matches left, even if West Indies win, they can reach up to four points while Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe already have six points in their three games. Scotland with this win is on four points and would reckon that an upset can help them sneak into the tournament proper.

Ironically, West Indies were forced to play the qualifier before the 2019 World Cup also but eventually managed to finish in the top two along with Afghanistan to save themselves from embarrassment.

Star Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was on fire for Nottinghamshire against Warwickshire during the North Group match of T20 Blast 2023, which was played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Friday (June 30). The 23-year-old left-arm pacer created a new world record by becoming the first bowler in the history of a T20 game to dismiss four batters in the first over of the innings. The Pakistani pace ace removed Warwickshire skipper and wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Davies for a golden duck on the first legitimate delivery of the innings. Davies was trapped in front of the wickets and was adjudged LBW out.

On the second ball, Afridi then removed Chris Benjamin. Like Davies, Benjamin also got out for a golden duck. He was clean-bowled. Shaheen missed out on a hat-trick but took two more wickets on the last two balls of the first over. He removed Dan Mousley, who was caught by Olly Stone for one from two balls on the fifth ball, and clean bowled Ed Barnard for a golden duck on the last delivery.
